Abstract

The convertible furniture unit comprises two boxes (1,3) which are coupled together and may rest one on top of the other, or one beside the other. The unit may be deployed in caravans and includes a combined handling and leverage system which reduces the lifting effort. One (1) of the boxes may be fixed in position mounted on the floor. The deployed position of the mobile box (3) may be on the floor adjacent to the static box. The leverage may take the form of a 'U' shape member (12, 16, 13). The legs (12) of the 'U' are pinned to the static box so the lever pivots about a horizontal axis (22). The mobile box is pinned to intermediate points on the lever arms, with the axis of rotation (24) parallel to the prime fulcrum axis (22). The 'U' bar (13) serves as the handle and either of the box axles may slide relative to the 'U' legs.
