Abstract

A novel cell culture system suitable for virus prodn. comprises diploid cells from a foetal carine lung cell line in a nutrient culture medium. The medium pref. also contains foetal bovine serum, pref. at 10-20%. For vaccine prodn. esp. using infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, canine distemper, parainfluenza type 3, blue tongue or partic. rabies virus. The cell line is stable, viable and cheap. It can be subjected to culture and subcultures for up to 35 passages without change of characteristics. The cells are free from bacteria, fungi and accidental viruses, are non-tumorigenic and non-oncogenic, and give very high virus titres.
