Abstract

The bale press comprises a press chamber (101) contg. a reciprocable ram (102). Outside the chamber is a drive (111) for actuating the ram, coupled to the ram and to the end wall (105) of the chamber remote from the ram. The drive pref. consists of at least one hydraulic cylinder coupled to a pivotable end section of the chamber by a pivotable link rod (113). The movements caused by the cylinders are pref. synchronised by a torsion bar (122) extending transversely to the direction of travel of thge ram and bearing non-rotatably connected transmission members (123) which follow the movements of the cylinders.
