Abstract

Building elements are made comprising a number of porous fire resistant blocks bound together by cementing strips of fire resistant material. The prods. are esp. useful for making hearths for open fibres in dwellings. Compared with known cast concrete hearths, the new fireplaces are less prone to cracking, not require expert installation, and due to the lower conductivity in comparison with cast concrete, there is less danger of overheating and fire hazards in buildings where wood comes into contact or close proximity to the hearth. Pref. cementing strips are comprised of a heated mixt. of clay, sintered refractory material and monoaluminium sulphate.
