Abstract

The support may contain paper, sawdust, asbestos, glass wool, and/or slag wool, whereas the agent is pref. powder or grains of alkali(ne earth) - or rare - metals, or a mixt. or alloy of these metals. The support may also contain one or more additives, viz. Al2O3, MgO, CaO, SiO2, fluorides, borates and/or carbides. The agent and/or the additive may be located in hollow spaces in the support. The support may contain layers of thermal insulation and/or layers with and without the agent; and materials forming channels, esp. fibres, tubes or rings. The support may contain by wt. up to 50% of the agent, pref. 10-40% (25-35%) Mg with size is not >2mm, (0.1-1mm) in a support contg. is not >10%, (1-6%) paper fibres and 1-4% organic binder. Used e.g. in the mfr. of nodular cast iron, with min. loss of agent.
