Abstract

Antirhinoviral unit dose compsns. are new comprising, as active ingredient, a thiazolyguanidine of formula (IV) or their acid-addn. salts (where R is H or Cl; R' is H, F, Cl, alkyl, carbonyl or alkoxycarbonyl): Used in treatment of common cold and other respiratory viral infections. Used orally, intranasally or parenterally. Oral compsns. contain 50-400 mg in unit doses are admin. at 100-1600 mg/day. Intranasal compsns. are preferably 0.05-10% suspensions applied as sprays or nasal drops several times daily. Injectable compsns. contain 0.5-2.0 mg/kg of (IV). A typical cpd., 1-(4-phenyl-2-thiazolyl)-3-phenylguanidine, was prepd. by heating under reflux a mixt. of 4-phenyl-2-thiazolycarbamonitrile and aniline in ethanol.
