Abstract

Amine-H contg. curing agents for epoxy resins comprise a mixt. of (a) an amine deriv. (I) and (b) a higher alkyl phenol (II), in a ratio (I):(II) of 1:1 to 1:10. (I) may be e.g. diethylenetriamine (III), dipropylenetriamine (IV) or an amine deriv. contg. a cyanoethyl gp. made e.g. by reacting equimolar amts. of a polyamine and acrylonitrile, such as cyanoethyldiethylenetriamine or cyanoethyldiproylenetriamine. (II) is is dinonylphenol (V). The curing agents cure the epoxy resin to give cured prods. with excellent adhesion to the substrate, and which cure without discolouration or the usual 'fish eye' surface effect in amine-cured epoxy resins. Suitable (II) are alkyl phenols with 4-12C, esp. 4-10C alkyl gps., such as monodi, or tributyl phenol and (esp.) (V).
