Abstract

Isobutene is (co)polymerised by means of a catalyst system contg. (a) a cpd. of formula AlR2X, where X is a halogen and R is a 1-10C hydrocarbon gp. or H, and (b) picryl chloride as co-catalyst. Reaction is more uniform, and temp. is more easily regulated, giving polymers of higher purity. The co-catalyst can easily be metered.
