Abstract

An antistatic compsn. comprises an aq. soln. of a vitreous cpd. obtd. by fusion of a glass forming cpd. (I), specifically an alkali metal (Na) (poly)phosphate, associated with oxides of transition metals exhibiting several valency states in the final vitreous cpd. Used in the prepn. of antistatic layers for photographic, cinematographic and magnetic prods. The soln, is stable. (I) is selected from Na tripolyphosphate Na5P3O10, Graham salt (NaPO3)x or Na hexametaphosphate (NAPO3)6, Na pyrophosphate Na4P2O7, trisodium phosphate or Na metaphosphate. The transistor metal oxide is V2O5, CeO2, MoO3, WO3, Sb2O3, and/or BiO3. The aq. soln. pref. contains an org. solvent and a binder e.g. cellulose esters, styrene/maleic anhydride copolymers, etc.
