Abstract

In the wet process prodn. of fibreboards, partic. hard (wood) fibreboards, wherein an aqs. fibre slurry is mixed in a tank and then pumped, pref. at pH 4-5, to a reservoir from which it is applied or a mesh to form a fibrous web which is drained and finally compressed and/or heated, with opt.addn. of hydrophobic waxes during the process prior to compression, the improvement comprises adding one or more humidifying agents (I) at least before the compression and/or the thermal treatment. Incorporation of (I) results in a higher degree of dehydration with subsequent redn. in compression time and heat requirements. Process is also applicable to sugar cane bagasse which could not be used in prior art wet processes. The finished prod. also has improved hydrophobicity and strength.
