Abstract

A radioactive fuel element has a base with fuel rods extending axially from it. A tube slides over the base. A cap connected to the tube has a lifting bracked. The base is connected to the cap by a rod. The rod supports a quick release closure operated by a bracket. The cover can be removed with a minimum of difficulty and tools for insection of the fuel rods. This reduces the risk of exposure of operators to radiation.
