Abstract

An installation for cleaning crucibles lined with refractory brickwork, esp. those used in aluminium casting, has a faceplace and a chuck arrangement on which the crucible can be clamped on its side, and a rotating milling cutter carried on a table which can be adjusted in three directions. The operating details are mounted on the machine bed, and their relative motions are effected and controlled by sets of levers and hydraulic pistons. This supersedes the time consuming and unpleasant chipping away of metal residues and slag by hand. The machine can be operated safely and without risk of damage to the crucible lining.
