Abstract
1488843 Removing furnace linings DOSCO OVERSEAS ENG Ltd 24 Oct 1975 [22 Nov 1974] 50644/74 Heading F4B [Also in Division B3] Cutting apparatus for removing furnace linings comprises a rotary cutting head 41 carried by boom assembly 37 which is movable between an advanced cutting position and a withdrawn position by means of rams 39 and is capable of being rocked about a horizontal axis 45 for cutting at different levels by means of a pair of lift cylinders 47, and a subframe 27 carrying said cutting head and boom assembly and which is rotatable relative to a base member 15 about a vertical axis through 360 degrees by means of an hydraulic motor 29 having an output pinion 31 engaging a geared slewing ring 33 connected to the base 15. The subframe rotating mechanism is designed to operate from a given reference point through 185 degrees in a clockwise direction and through 185 degrees in an anticlockwise direction; stops 30 and 32 on the base 15 and brake arms 34 and 36 on the subframe 27 are provided to ensure that rotation beyond 185 degrees cannot occur in either direction. The subframe 27 is supported by a Y- frame assembly 17 which in turn is suspended from a further frame 19. The frame 19, which includes three equiangularly spaced arms resting upon the top of the furnace side walls, is clamped in position by clamps 21 operated by ram assemblies 23 within the arms. The boom assembly 37 is horizontally slidable between the advanced and withdrawn positions on a pair of tubular slides 35 forming part of the subframe 27. A stop 49 connected to the base 15 by a member 51 is provided to hold the cutting apparatus against rotation during use. The cutting head 41 is rotated by a motor 43.
