Abstract

Self-extinguishing opt foamed polyurethane materials are obtd. by reacting an org. polyol with an equiv. amt. of a org. polyisocyanate cpd. in the presence of a P cpd. of formula (I): (where R1 is alkyl, haloalkyl or aryl, R2-4 are each H, hydroxyalkyl, or a gp. of formula:- -CH2-P(=O)(OR1)2). (I) shows good flame resistant action in polyurethane materials, including rigid and flexible foams (I) are colourless and do not harm the properties of the polyurethanes.
