Abstract

In an appts. for dry-quenching of cokes and other combustible lump materials, comprising a vertical chamber (i) fabricated from refractory material provided with loading discharge openings in the upper and lower parts of the chamber respectively, (ii) divided into two zones about half way up by cooling gas discharge apertures, the upper zone forming a fore chamber and the lower zone exclusively forming a quench chamber in the bottom of which slots are provided for the supply of cooling gas thereto, (iii) a distributor is provided for the flow of material to be treated and is mounted along the vertical axis and over the whole height of the quench chamber, which has an annular cross section and (iv) feed passages for cooling gas are provided in the upper part of the distributor. Method gives a uniform displacement of the combustible material over the whole cross section of the quench chamber as well as a uniform distribution of the cooling gas therein.
