Abstract
Prodn. of battery plates for Pb-acid batteries comprises (a) starting with pasted plate grids; (b) forming these first in an aq. H2SO4 soln. at 43-82, pref. 65-82 degrees C to convert the paste into the active material; (c) stopping the passage of electric current when min. 50, pref. min. 60% of the final charge has been supplied; (d) leaving the partly formed plate in the soln. for min. 30 min., pref. 45 min. to 3 h.; and (e) forming again to the required final charge. The aq. H2SO4 soln. used pref. has a sp. gr. of 1.05-1.20. The finished plates are less liable to undergo a loss in quality during dry storage.
