Abstract

Polymeris substrates are dyed by (1) treating the substrate with a phosphorus sulphide in a low oxidn. state (I) to coat the substrate with a film of (I), and (2) dyeing the treated substrate by contact with an aq. liquor contg. >=1 pt. wt. of a lignin sulphonate salt and >=1 pt. wt. of an org. basic dye. Process is simple, cheap and used for colouring mouldings of polypropylene, polyethylene, ABS, PVC and (esp.) unsatd. polyesters, partic. 'low profile' GRP mouldings used e.g. in automobiles, the electrical industry, domestic articles, etc.
