Abstract

The electrical thermostat does not use contacts but includes a bimetallic strip. The bimetallic strip (10) is shaped like a J, and fixed to the wall such that it can pivot about a pin (12). The position of the bimetallic strip is adjusted by means of a cam (15), attached to the actuator knob (14). A permanent magnet (16) is connected to the top end of the stem (10b) and operates in conjunction with a saturable core (20) made from magnetic material. The core is attached to a printed circuit board. The core has a primary (22) and a secondary (24) winding. The secondary produces an output signal which varies with time and which is fed to the input of a Schmidt trigger circuit (28) and then to a multivibrator (30).
