Abstract

A column of water is suspended by vacuum from an opening shut off by expansion of the soil (3). Contact between water and soil is completely severed until the soil dries up an shrinks, breaking the vacuum and allowing a tube to fill up (5) with water. This is absorbed by the soil. The reservoir (8) can be filled both by irrigation of the soil (6) and via a tube (7).
