Abstract

Improved pigments are obtd. by treating the pigment, in aqs. suspension, with a water-sol. basic salt of a metal and an aqs. soln. of a water-sol. salt of an org. acid or aqs. emulsion or soln. of this org. acid, the basic salt and the org. acid or its salt being so chosen as to form in aqs. soln. a water-insol. basic salt. The pigment is pref. a chromium pigment, but titanium dioxide, iron oxide and azo pigments may thus be treated in order to improve their dispersibility in org. media, e.g. paints, alkyds, heat-curable acrylic resins and thermoplastics. They are not easily wetted by water, but very easily wetted by non-polar solvents e.g. xylene, toluene.
