Abstract

The system is for measuring fuel consumption in a motor vehicle. It consists of a flow meter (1) which has a housing (2) containing a transparent tube (3). The flow meter is installed in a vertical position. The internal diameter of the hollow transparent tube increases along the axis from the bottom to the top. It contains a spherical floater (4). The tube is inserted in the fuel supply lines (5, 6). The height of the floater in the tube will be an indication of the volume of fuel passing through the tube in unit time. The position of the floater will be indicated by the projection of a light beam from a light source onto a calibrated scale on the side of the tube.
