Abstract

Coal loads suitable for bulk transport and storage are produced by mixing lumps of coal with coal dust with a moisture content of >= 5 (pref. 15-20) wt. % or with a coal dust slurry with a water content of >= 25 wt. %, the particle size of the coal dust being 10% of the size of the smallest lumps, to produce a mixt. contg. = 70 (prep. 5-60) wt. % lumps and >= 30 (pref. 40-95) wt. % dust + water. The load pref. has a water content of 5-30 wt. %, this amt. being sufficient, together with the coal dust, to fill the void between the lumps. Pref. 50-70 wt. % of the coal dust has a particle size of 100 mu. The coal lumps and dust can be of different origin or quality, e.g. lumps of coking coal can be transported with inexpensive steam or thermal coal dust. Part of the load can be made up of coal briquettes or agglomerates.
