Abstract

A slurry is separated into two phases by pressing it between two continuous bands which move over rollers so that the liquid passes through the bands. The bands are relatively narrow and thin and move towards each other and are passed rapidly over a number of rollers on a spiral path. Slurry can be dewatered rapidly and continuously. The liquid is removed using centrifugal force and this gives a dryer product than usual. The liquid is not pressed back into the mass by the rollers.
