Abstract

The fins of the tube are transverse to the length of the tube and the fluidized bed is relatively shallow, e.g. the unfluidized bed may be up to 6 inches in depth. More than one tube may be used in >=1 layers. The bed is supported on a gas distributor plate which may be integral with the fins. The system is used for the heat transfer between a fluid within the tube(s) and either the bed particles or the gas used to fluidize it. The relatively shallow bed permits a much greater rate of heat transfer per unit area of tube surface.
