Abstract
Deposits formed on the inner wall of a polymsn. reactor or other appts. during the polymsn. of an ethylenically unsatd. monomer are removed by mechanical treatment, after or during the contacting of the deposit with an alkaline soln. Specif. the deposit is formed during the (co)polymsn. of vinyl chloride. The alkaline soln. contains sodium, potassium, calcium or ammonium hydroxide or sodium caronate. The concn. of the alkaline soln. is >=0.5 esp. 1-50 wt.%. The deposit is sprayed with the alkaline soln. at 5-50 degrees C. After contacting with the alkaline soln., the deposit is sprayed with a water jet at a pressure of 5 kg/cm2. Practically complete removal of deposits in a short time without damaging the reactor wall. Low cost.
