Abstract

Appts. for centring a pair of pipes which are to be joined together, having a carriage on which a column is provided for supporting a mechanism for joining the ends of such pipes, the carriage together with the column being reciprocatable while the column is mounted so that it is freely rotatable round its vertical axis and supports a free carrying element or girder one end of which is hinged to the column extending in the length direction of the element. The mechanism for joining the ends of the pair of pipes is installed on the free end of the free support guider by means of a further hinge which permits rotation of the mechanism round a further horizontal pivot shaft perpendicular to that of the free supporting guider. The mechanism has coaxially situated gripper elements adapted for holding the free ends of the pair of pipes to be joined in the desired posn.
