Abstract

Appts for coating the centres or cores of confectionery with a layer of sugar, chocolate, etc. consisting of a horizontal drum rotating about its longitudinal axis and having an inlet for the feed of the cores and liq. coating material, and an outlet at the opposite end for the coated cores, but comprising an inner drum of smaller dia. coaxial with the above-mentioned drum and provided with an inlet for the cores and coating material at one end and outlet for the coated cores at the other end, and connected rigidly to the outer drum by means of a series of helically wound transverse partitions in the interspace between the two drums, generally in such a way that during the common rotation of the inner and outer drum in one direction the transverse partitions in the interspace function as a screw conveyor for recycling incompletely coated cores from the outle end of the inner drum to the inlet end of both drums, and that the outlet of the outer drum can be closed off during this rotation.
