Abstract

In an installation for fixing continuous synthetic filaments and yarns, the contact heaters are reduced to two onll, one before and one after the main heat treatment zone. This consists of a relatively long chamber through which the broad web of filaments passes under constant tension and at high speed, in close proximity to a battery of infra red radiators. The infra red heaters emit radiation at the highest frequency that can be absorbed by the fibres, and the heat impinges directly on the upper surface of the web. Beneath the web a very highly polished surface reflects the radiation to the underside thus ensuring complete penetration of the individual filaments. The suspension system for the radiator battery provides for easy adjustment up and down, and between the radiators and the filaments, a series of louvres extending across the width of the stove is automatically controlled by a pyrometer sensing the temp. of the web of filaments at the exit. A ventilating system channels fresh air around the filaments.
