Abstract

Evaporation chambers for a series of stagesa re arranged at progressively lower levels so that liquid not evaporated at one stage is transferred by gravity to the next stage, the space above liquid in each chamber being maintained at a pressure below vapour satn. point for that temp. and that pressure being progressively lower for lower stages. Vapour from each chamber is taken off by a vapour extraction pipe passing down through remaining stages. Robust, compact construction is ideal for desalination of sea-water and purifying polluted liquids.
