Abstract
Linear copolyesters are prepd. by reacting terephthalic acid, or a lower alkyl terephthalate, with a 2-10C glycol and a is not 36C diol. Pref. diols have formula (C17H33CH2OH)2 or (C21H41CH2OH)2 or are the reduced forms of these diols, contg. no double bonds. The diols are prepd. by hydrogenating (C17H33COOH)2 or (C21H41COOH)2 and these acids are in turn prepd. by dimerising oleic acid or brassidic acid. The copolyesters can be melt-spun to fibres which can be dyed with disperse dyes without the use of carriers. The fibres have high tensile strength and resistance to chemicals.
