Abstract

In a separating apparatus for the removal of separable components from a liquid, of the known type incorporating a separating assembly of a series of superimposed boundary elements defining a series of separating passages sloping upwards or downwards in the direction of flow and installed in a tank having feed and discharge channels connected via a feed overflow weir and a lower level discharge weir respectively to the feed and discharge sides of the separating assembly, each such assembly being additionally provided with means for the discharge of separated components, the improvements comprising a fixed feed overflow weir in the form of a plane inclined downwardly in the direction of flow with its highest point not above the maximum liquid level in a feed of the liquid to be treated and not below the maximum level of the floating component which arises or the lowest level of a connecting liquid lock chamber in the feed piping.
