Abstract

Continuous preparation of chlorine dioxide Prepd. from treatment of chlorate with hydrochloric acid, in tower made of, or coated with, titanium metal. Tower consists of series of connected sectors, through which are passed reactant solns. and inert gas at 1/2-1 atmosphere pressure, using counter current principle. Inert gas removes and dilutes the chlorine dioxide gas formed. Use of pressure removes gas faster and prevents explosive build-up within tower.
