The composition of this glass in percentage in weight lies between the following limits: B2O3 19 - 22 Ta2O5 4 - 12 La2O3 34 - 38 ThO2 8 - 20 Al2O3 2 - 5 BaO 6 ZrO2 2 - 5 TiO2 3 Nb2O5 10 - 5 The tendency towards crystallization found with glasses with high refractory indices os overcome. They can be drawn out without the danger of crystallization at a temperature of between 750 degrees and 800 degrees C. The danger of contaminating the photocathode by combinations of certain elements (Pb, Cd, Se, F, Cl and Bi) which was the case when using a fibre-optic element in certain electronic devices has been overcome.
