Abstract

Thermoplastics such as polyvinyl alcohol or partially hydrolysed ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers, by treating a melt of the polymer with an esterification agent such as phthalic-, maleic or succinic anhydride, e.g. in a kneader. Products are tough, clear and strong, and can be used to make films, rod and foamed products.
