Description
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to an arrangement for detachably fastening a portable radio device, and more particularly to an arrangement according to claim 1. Further the present invention relates to an arrangement for changing the operating mode of the portable radio device when fastening and detaching the portable radio device.
Background of the invention
In many professions it is required to carry a portable radio device all the time and usually this is implemented through pockets that are attached to a garment, such as trousers, jackets or vests.
In prior art it is known to fasten and detach mobile terminal devices through an attachment member and an attachment counter piece in a form of a zip fastener. This is disclosed for example in the document US 2004/0187183.
In prior art it is also known to hold objects on a side pack as disclosed in the document US 6,209, 769.
One of the problems associated with the above arrangements is that although the mobile terminal device or other object, such as a portable radio device, can be fastened and detached in a simple way to a garment to carry it easily there are other requirements that are to be considered too, such as when needing both hands for something more important than holding a radio device and operating it or saving the battery of the portable radio device so that it will operate long.
Portable radio devices may comprise a magnetic sensor that can be activated through a magnet. However, in order to operate properly and to activate the magnetic sensor it needs to be very close to the magnet. The distance between a magnet and a magnetic sensor can be only couple of millimetres in order to create a magnetic flux between the magnet and the magnetic sensor.
Brief description of the invention
An object of the present invention is to provide an arrangement so as to solve the above problems. The objects of the invention are achieved by an arrangement which is characterized by what is stated in the independent claim. The preferred embodiments of the invention are disclosed in the dependent claims.
The invention is based on the idea of providing an arrangement for attaching a portable radio device and providing a magnetic field for activating a magnetic sensor in the portable radio device for changing an operating mode when fastening the portable radio device to a base and for deactivating the magnetic sensor when detaching the portable radio device from the base such that the magnetic field no longer exists. This means for example that when the portable radio device is attached to a base the operating mode is in a carrying mode saving the battery and when the portable radio device is detached from the base it is in an activated mode.
The arrangement for detachably fastening a portable radio device according to the invention comprises a dock part connectable to a base; a connector part provided to the portable radio device, which said portable radio device comprising a magnetic sensor, and a magnet for generating a magnetic field in order to activate the magnetic sensor. The dock part and the connector part are arranged to be fastened to each other detachably for fastening the portable radio device to the base and for detaching the portable radio device from the base. The connector part comprises a first ferromagnetic carrier for transferring the magnetic field from the magnet to the magnetic sensor in the portable radio device through the connector part.
An advantage of the arrangement of the invention is that the portable radio device can be constantly connected to the connector part and when fastening or detaching the portable radio device to and from the base for activating or deactivating the magnetic sensor in the portable radio device or for changing the operating mode of the portable radio device the user of the portable radio device does not need to do anything else than connecting or disconnecting the connector part to or from the dock part. In other words the user of the portable radio device does not need to do anything for changing the operating mode except to connect or disconnect the device itself to or from the dock part. An advantage of the arrangement of the invention is also that the loudspeaker and the microphone of the portable radio device can be activated to continue communication while working so the operator of the portable radio device can use both hands for something else than holding the device and communicating through it.

Figure 2 shows a first embodiment of an arrangement according to the invention;
Figure 3 shows a second embodiment of an arrangement according to the invention;
Figure 4 shows a third embodiment of an arrangement according to the invention; Figure 5 shows a connector part according to the invention; and Figure 6 shows a further embodiment of a connector part according to the invention.
Detailed description of the invention
Figure 1 shows an arrangement according to the invention, which the arrangement comprises a dock part 10 that is connectable to abase 11, which the base 11 can be a separate part or part of some other entity such as a part of a vehicle, a wall or other fixed surface or a garment such as fabric of a trouser, a jacket, a vest or other similar. So the base 11 can be a separate part to which the dock part 10 is connectable or the base 11 can be for example a structure of a vehicle or the base 11 can be a piece of clothing that the user of a portable radio device uses. The arrangement further comprises a connector part 20 provided to the portable radio device, said portable radio device comprising a magnetic sensor. The dock part 10 and the connector part 20 are arranged to be fastened to each other detachably for fastening the portable radio device to the base 11 and for detaching the portable radio device from the base 11. The arrangement further comprises a magnet 12 for generating a magnetic field in order to activate the magnetic sensor. The connector part 20 comprises a first ferromagnetic carrier 21a for transferring the magnetic field from the magnet 12 to the magnetic sensor in the portable radio device through the connector part 20. As can be seen from the figure 1 the dock part 10 and the connector part 20 both comprises locking elements which in this embodiment is a groove and tongue joint. In the embodiment shown in figure 1 the magnet 12 is arranged in the dock part 10 and the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a is arranged in the connector part 20 such that when the connector part 20 is connected to the dock part 10 the magnet 12 and the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a are so close to each other that the magnetic field is created between them.
Figure 2 shows a first embodiment of the arrangement according to the invention described in connection with figure 1. In this embodiment of the invention the dock part 10, the base 11 and the connector part 20 are all separate parts such that the dock part 10 is connectable to the base 11 through mechanical connection such as screws or pins. The magnet 12 is provided in the dock part 10 and the contact between the magnet 12 and the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a in the connector part 20 is provided as described in connection with figure 1. In another embodiment of the invention the dock part 10 may be connected to the base 11 through nails that do not perforate a layer arranged between the dock part 10 and the base 11 but which take the layer along such that it is kept between the nails and a corresponding place in the base 11. The layer in that embodiment is preferably a clothing or similar material. In still another embodiment of the invention the dock part 10 may be connected to the base through magnet.
Figure 3 shows a second embodiment of the arrangement according to the invention described in connection with figure 1 as seen from above. In this embodiment the magnet 12 is provided to the base 11 and the dock part 10 comprises a second ferromagnetic carrier 21b and the connector part 20 comprises the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a. When the dock part 10 and the connector part 20 are arranged together in a contact such that the connector part 20 is provided to the dock part 10 and the dock part 10 is connected to the base 11 the magnet 12 is in contact with the second ferromagnetic carrier 21b which is arranged to extend through the thickness of the dock part 10, i.e. from the surface facing the base 11 through the dock part 10 to the surface facing the connector part 20, and the second ferromagnetic carrier 21b is further in contact with the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a in the connector part 20 for transferring the magnetic field from the magnet 12 in the base 11 through the dock part 10 via the second ferromagnetic carrier 21b and through the connector part 20 via the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a to the magnetic sensor in the portable radio device. This means that the first ferromagnetic carrier 2 la also extends through the connector part 20 from the first surface 25 to the second surface 26 through the connector part 20.
Figure 4 shows a third embodiment of an arrangement according to the invention described in connection with figure 1 as seen from side. In this embodiment the base 11 is a separate part and the dock part 10 is provided to the base 11 such that an intermediate layer 40 is arranged between the dock part 10 and the base 11 and the dock part 10 is connected to the base 11 with a mechanical connection 30 through the intermediate layer 40. The intermediate layer 40 can be for example a fabric, leather, rubber or any other layer that is suitable for connecting the dock part 10 such that the base 11 is on the opposite side of the intermediate layer 40 than the dock part 10 and the mechanical connection 30 can be used for connecting the dock part 10 and the base
11. This way the dock part 10 can be provided to an overall or to other working cloths. In another embodiment of the invention in which the base 11 is a piece of clothing or other garment, such as a fabric, leather, rubber the dock part 10 can be connected mechanically straight to the clothing through with a nail connection or a magnetic connection.
Figure 5 shows a connector part 20 according to the invention. As shown in the figure the connector part 20 comprises a first surface 25 and a second surface 26 on opposite side of the connector part 20 and the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a is arranged to extend between the first surface 25 and the second surface 26 through the connector part 20. In the embodiment shown in figure 5 the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a extends from the first surface 25 to the second surface 26 such it has a thickness approximately the same as the thickness of the connector part 20. The first ferromagnetic carrier 21a may in other embodiments of the invention has a thickness less than the thickness of the connector part 20 so that a thin layer of the material of the connector part 20 covers the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a yet such that the magnetic field is not affected or when the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a has a thickness less than the thickness of the connector part 20 the first surface 25 and/or the second surface 26 of the connector part 20 and the surface of the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a are in different levels, i.e. the surface 25, 26 of the connector part 20 is not even but has a notch in the place where the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a is.
Figure 6 shows a further embodiment of a connector part according to the invention. As shown in the figure the connector part 20 is provided to the portable radio device (not shown in the figure) through a casing 50 (shown with dashed line) covering at least part of the portable radio device such that the connector part 20 is connected to the casing 50 with at least one mechanical coupling 22. In the embodiment shown in figure 6 there are two mechanical couplings 22 providing a connection with the casing 50. Further the at least one mechanical coupling 22 can be arranged to act as the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a. This is not necessary if the connector part 20 comprises separately the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a.
In the arrangement the dock part 10, the connector part 20 and the magnet 12 are arranged such that when the dock part 10 and the connector part 20 are fastened to each other the magnet 12, the first and/or the second ferromagnetic carrier 21a, 21b and the magnetic sensor in the portable radio device are in line with each other so that the magnetic field from the magnet can be transferred through the first and/or the second ferromagnetic carrier 21a, 21b to the magnetic sensor.
The magnet 12 for generating a magnetic field in order to activate the magnetic sensor is sized such that it has for example a diameter of 5 -10 mm.
Although in all the above described embodiments the base 11 is approximately of a size same as the dock part 10 and in most cases a separate part the base 11 can also be a fixed surface, for example part of a vehicle, a wall or other fixed surface or a piece of clothing. The dock part 10 and the connector part 20 may also be in a form of a Velcro-tape such that one of them comprises a female connector surface and the other comprises a male connector surface. In that case the dock part 10 may be sewed or other way attached to the base 11 and the magnet 12 may be provided in a first connector surface of the Velcro-tape of the dock part 10 and the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a may be provided to the counter connector surface of the Velcro-tape of the connector part 20 such that the first ferromagnetic carrier 21a is arranged to go through the Velcro-tape of the connector part 20 to make an operable connection with the portable radio device to which the connector part 20 is provided.
It will be obvious to a person skilled in the art that, as the technology advances, the inventive concept can be implemented in various ways. The invention and its embodiments are not limited to the examples described above but may vary within the scope of the claims.
