Description

EMERGENCY LIGHTING DEVICE FOR VEHICLES DESCRIPTION
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The present invention refers to a device comprising an emergency light with an innovative system for transmitting the light. The device can be permanently attached to a vehicle or it can be detachable. It is placed on emergency vehicles to generate light signals, and it is able to emit different kinds of flashes.
It is of particular use in the industry that manufactures lighting devices for vehicles.
TECHNICAL PROBLEM TO ADDRESS AND BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In the current state of the art, several types of lighting devices used in vehicles are known. Firstly, there are signalling lighting devices used in vehicles such as those used in construction sites or assistance vehicles. Additionally, there are emergency lighting devices used in vehicles such as police vehicles, fire engines, and ambulances.
Although the present invention is suitable for any kind of lighting device, it focuses on emergency lighting devices .
In the state of the art, these lighting devices are comprised of a rotating component where the light emitting component is located alongside a reflecting screen. This allows the light emitted to be redirected in every direction except for the direction of the reflecting screen. As it rotates, it produces a more noticeable light.
The arrival of LED diodes in the industry of electric lighting has brought about a change in how these lighting devices are designed. The industry has incorporated lighting devices that flash, creating also a noticeable lighting effect that warns of a danger, or that simply notifies of the presence of a danger.
However, the drawback of LED diodes is that the light they emit is not very homogeneous.
The present invention eliminates this problem by presenting a lighting device in which the light emitted by the LED diodes is conveniently directed in a more homogeneous way such that it is visualised more efficiently.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention consists of an emergency lighting device for vehicles. The main components the device is comprised of are a printed circuit board, a plurality of LED diodes, a collimator placed over the plurality of LED diodes, a reflector where the light beams emitted by the LED diodes fall on after passing through the collimator, and a tulip-shaped lampshade where the light beams reflected by the reflector fall on before they are emitted outside the device.
The LED diodes are placed on the board in a circular configuration in the shape of a crown, and they are also uniformly distributed. The collimator is a single component with a revolving geometry that is placed over the crown of LED diodes. It has the function of converting the diverging light beams of the LED diodes into parallel light beams, such that they fall on the reflector. The tulip-shaped lampshade has a geometry following the principle of a Fresnel lens, so that it distributes the light it receives from the reflector in a homogeneous way.
The device also comprises a protective housing covering the assembly of the components. It can be attached permanently to a vehicle, or it can be detachable .
The board comprises a connection for powering the LED diodes with electricity, which can be either a cable connected to the electrical system of the vehicle where it is installed or an external battery. It can also be powered by means of a battery incorporated in the device itself. In the latter example, the battery can be rechargeable .

DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
The present invention consists of an emergency lighting device for vehicles.
Figure 1 shows a cross-section view of the device that is the object of the invention, which shows the main components comprising the device in one of the embodiments of the invention.
Figure 2 shows an exploded view of the lighting device that is the object of the invention, which shows each of the components with greater clarity.
The device comprises a printed circuit board (1), preferably in a circular shape, in which a plurality of LED diodes (2) are uniformly distributed in the shape of a crown.
A collimator (3) is placed over the crown of LED
diodes (2). The collimator (3) is configured in a singlepiece component with a revolving geometry that is placed over the crown of LED diodes (2) . It has the function of converting each of the diverging light beams of the LED diodes (2) into parallel light beams. This has the purpose of homogenising the trajectories of the light beams that are sent in every direction when emitted by a light source, such that a set of light beams with the same properties is obtained. In this case, the main function is to homogenise and redirect the light emitted by the crown of LED diodes (2) in a homogeneous way towards the reflector (4) .
The device also comprises a reflector (4) installed on the board (1), a mounted tulip-shaped lampshade (5) that completely covers the reflector (4), and a protective housing (6) that covers the whole assembly.
The reflector (4) is a surface that has the function of reflecting the light. The most common geometry of a reflector (4) is a paraboloid of revolution, using the inner surface that receives the light beams to reflect them on a common point called focus. In the case of the present invention, the outer part of the paraboloid is not used to focus the beams on a single point, but rather to spread them over a surface. The function of the reflector (4) is to modify the trajectory of the light beams coming out of the collimator (3) such that they fall on the desired area of the tulip-shaped lampshade (5). More specifically, the intended effect is to make the light beams fall on the entire surface of the tulip-shaped lampshade (5).
The geometry of the tulip-shaped lampshade (5) is designed following the principle of a Fresnel lens. The design of the Fresnel lens can produce lenses with wide aperture and short focal length without the weight and the amount of material that would be needed for a conventional lens. In this case, the light beams reflected by the reflector (4) fall on the tulip-shaped lampshade (5), which distributes the light sending parallel light beams -regardless of the directions of the light beams falling on it. In this way, a homogeneous luminosity is achieved throughout the lighting device. Therefore, in a practical application, the lighting device is located on the roof a vehicle with the LED diodes (2) directed vertically. The light beams reflected on the reflector (4) are redirected towards the entire surface of the tulip-shaped lampshade (5) , which emits them outwards laterally and in parallel, achieving the desired effect.
The device is covered by a transparent outer housing (6) that can be tinted, manufactured preferably with polycarbonate, aimed at protecting the rest of the components and allowing the light to pass through with the lowest loss of luminosity and the highest efficiency possible .
Powering the LED diodes (2) with electricity is done by means of a connection located on the board (1), which is not show in the drawings, which receives the required voltage. Voltage can be supplied by means of batteries incorporated in the device itself or by means of an external power source using cables or by wireless means.
The present invention is not limited by the embodiment disclosed herein. Other embodiments can be made by persons skilled in the art in light of this description. In consequence, the scope of the invention is defined by the following claims.
