Abstract
It is described an hermetically-sealable single-dose pack or bag containing a biodegradable capsule or pod containing 5 ground coffee, characterized in that said single-dose pack or bag is in a material of biodegradable kind.
Description
Hermetically-sealable single-dose pack or bag containing a biodegradable coffee capsule or pod
DESCRIPTION
The present invention refers to a hermetically-sealable single-dose pack or bag containing a biodegradable coffee capsule or pod.
Biodegradable capsules or pods containing ground coffee, suitable for being used in home coffee machines are known. They are used once and then discarded into the rubbish with consequent biodegradability.
The problem deriving from the use of said capsules or pods is that they are inserted in packs normally made of flexible metallic material in the steps of production, sale and storage both at the level of the production and distribution chain, and at the level of the end customer. Said material must be adapted for ensuring the conservation of the pod so as to maintain the organoleptic properties of the coffee until its end use. The package is opened at the moment of end use and then discarded, but since it is made of non-biodegradable material, it causes a consequent non-recoverable pollution that damages the environment.
Therefore, the present invention has the purpose of indicating a hermetically-sealable single-dose pack or bag containing a biodegradable coffee capsule or pod, adapted for overcoming the aforementioned drawbacks.
An object of the invention is an hermetically-sealable single-dose pack or bag containing a biodegradable capsule or pod containing ground coffee, characterized in that said single-dose pack or bag is made of biodegradable material. A particular object of the present invention is a hermetically-sealable single-dose pack or bag containing a biodegradable coffee capsule or pod, as described better in the claims, which form an integral part of the present description.
The invention is now described hereinafter with an embodiment example (and variants thereof) and in reference to the attached drawings given purely as an example and not for limiting purposes, in which: figures l and 2 show embodiments examples of pack or bag adapted for containing a biodegradable coffee capsule or pod: figure 2 shows a package in opened out form since it contains a pod; figures 3 and 4 show embodiments of a coffee capsule or pod suitable for being inserted in the aforementioned pack or bag: in figure 3 the capsule is shown in two views, from above and in side section, whereas in figure 4 the capsule is shown in two views from the upper and lower sides.
The capsule or pod (figures 3 and 4) is made completely from biodegradable material.
For example it can be made of bioplastic, preferably PLA (polylactic acid), but it can also be made for example from MaterBi ®, material deriving from corn starch.
The material is thermoformed biodegradable and compostable. It contains ground coffee and has micro-perforations 1 on one side or on both sides for the liquid coffee drink to come out from, following use, inserting it in the suitable container of the coffee machine. It can also have a micro-perforated disc 2 on one side or on both sides to protect the content, preventing ground coffee from coming out, and to cover and close another thermowelded micro-perforated disc 2.
The discs are made of PLA or filter paper and in any case from absolutely biodegradable and compostable material.
The capsule or pod is provided with a shape adapted for being used in the suitable container of the coffee machine, for example in the figures it is substantially cylindrical.
The single-dose pack or bag (figures 1 and 2) is also made of biodegradable material, preferably flexible.
For example it can be made of bioplastic, preferably PLA (polylactic acid), but it can also be made for example from MaterBi ®, material deriving from corn starch.
Therefore, the material of the pack or bag is also biodegradable and compostable.
The pack or bag is adapted for being hermetically closed after the insertion therein of a pod or capsule as described above, in order to ensure that the organoleptic characteristics of the coffee are maintained over time, and therefore it is of a size such as to allow a pod to be contained.
In a preferred variant example, the biodegradable pack or bag is made of two coupled films, preferably flexible. - at the external side of the pack or bag a film adapted to give consistency and printability to the whole pack or bag, and to be printed with ink of vegetable nature. In an embodiment example a film is used produced by the firm Sidaplax films (USA), code EF45; - at the internal side of the pack or bag a film adapted to maintain the chemical-physical olfactory characteristics of the coffee, and to be a light barrier towards the inside of the pack or bag , and a barrier against oxygen. In an embodiment example a film is used produced by the firm Innovia Films , code NatureFlex 22 NM White .
The coupling between the two films is made by glue of vegetable resin.
All the materials used are biodegradable, including the vegetal colours, as well as the gluing resin.
In order to avoid the biodegrading of the capsule before the end use, it is preferable , at the moment of hermetic closure, injecting inert preserving gas inside the package, for example non-pressurised nitrogen.
The package is adapted for being opened for end use, also allowing the gas to escape. Since it is inert, the gas comes out into the environment without causing any pollution problem.
The biodegradable single-dose pack or bag containing the capsule can in turn be inserted into a box containing many packages, for better distribution and storage.
The advantages deriving from the application of the present invention are clear.
After use, the pod can be reinserted into the single-dose package opened on one side, and the entire thing can be discarded as biodegradable, compostable waste.
From the description given above, those skilled in the art are able to make the object of the invention without introducing further constructive details.
