Description

P103055NL00
Title: Device for breaking eggs
The present invention relates to a device for breaking eggs as 5 described in the preamble of claim 1.
Such device for breaking eggs is known for example from US5293815. In said document the construction and the handling of such device are explained in great detail. Especially the controlling movements of 10 the respective parts, elements, and members of said device as part of an egg breaking apparatus with at least one row of such devices are outlined.
As regards receiving, supporting and clamping of eggs to be broken there is referred to an egg presser 1 and more in particular to a presser head 9. As can be seen from the Figures concerned, design of these 15 parts is such that a reasonable average of actions of clamping and resting results. Thus a fair amount of eggs obeying such average sizes and dimensions can be handled in a comfortable way.
However in this field of technology in general there has to be dealt 20 with eggs not suitable any more for purposes other than breaking. This means that many of such eggs have less comfortable features like weak shells, shells with cracks, eggs originating from very young or very old hens and thus substantially differing in sizes, and suchlike. So it has appeared that the parts and elements as shown thus far, and more in particular as 25 disclosed in US5293815, do not satisfy, thus resulting in egg remaining matter not to be processed anymore.
In order to overcome such difficulties the device of the present invention is characterized in that said anvil is pivotally connected to said 30 anvil rod, having a pivot axis perpendicular to said transporting direction.
2
Especially as to the problem of how to overcome suitable processing eggs which have different dimensions, this pivot has appeared very advantageously. Eggs are substantially always clamped immediately after having been transferred from a supply conveyor. Such clamping will 5 result in reliable breaking such eggs.
In a particular embodiment said anvil comprises a substantially concha formed resting surface substantially adapted to an egg surface. Preferably, said concha formed resting surface has a slightly extending strip 10 arranged in said transporting direction wherein the anvil has three resting and clamping parts, comprising said strip as a centre piece, and two concha halves.
Such anvil has appeared to result in stable positioning the eggs 15 before breaking whereas after breaking egg parts are arranged processed very suitably.
In another embodiment the device of the invention is characterized in that said concha formed resting surface has a slightly 20 extending strip arranged in said transporting direction wherein the anvil has three resting and clamping parts, comprising said strip as a centre piece, and two concha halves.
In yet a further embodiment said strip has a substantially flat 25 resting surface.
In yet another embodiment said strip has a convex resting surface.
3
Such strip results in separating egg shell halves without sliding into each other.
All such measures have shown, either separately or in combination, very advantageous breaking, thus resulting in improved yields 5 of egg liquid. Additionally collecting such egg shell halves has appeared very suitable.
In one other embodiment of the present invention said strip has a width between 1 and 5 mm.
10
As can be seen in further prior art documents, for example EP1988805, a knife hke rim or projection is well known. As explained in said document such part is employed for directing the crack during breaking. However, only having such projection does not avoid such 15 telescoping egg shell halves.
In one further embodiment of this invention each of said two cuplike support clamps comprises a recess for receiving an egg. Especially the combination of the pivot and concha features has appeared to improve 20 positioning of the eggs to be broken substantially. As such recesses are well known, however not in combination with the measures as outlined before.
The present invention shall be explained hereinafter thereby referring to the drawings, 25 with FIGURE 1 an isometrical view from above on a part of two rows of an egg breaking apparatus showing two devices for breaking eggs, and with FIGURE 2 an isometrical view from below on a detail of one such device breaking eggs.
30 In said two FIGURES the same parts are numbered the same.
4
In FIGURE 1 some parts of an egg breaking apparatus as generally known in this field of technology have been shown. In an isometrical view two egg breaking devices alongside each other and arranged on a same frame 1 are presented in this FIGURE 1. Each egg 5 breaking device is connected to said frame with frame connection means 10, 11. More in particular such connection means comprise fixation plates 10 and pivot (or hinge) clips 11. As indicated in this FIGURE 1 the direction of movement of such units is given by an arrow T.
10 In principle the egg breaking device itself has three main parts, i.e. support clamps 2, an anvil 3, and a knife unit 4. The way of working of such units is generally known for example from EP1988805.
More in particular the support clamps 2 are supporting the eggs 15 after transfer into such egg breaking device. In most cases eggs are transferred from a transport conveyor which transports and supplies large amounts of eggs to be broken. As can be seen in FIGURE 1 the clamps have two clamp strips 2a, 2b, at the distal ends of clamp rods 20a, 20b, which strips after breaking pivotally rotate from each other thereby supporting 20 and clamping egg shell halves.
After transfer as outlined above the anvil 3 is moved onto the upper surface of such egg. Thus such transferred egg is clamped between said support clamps 2 and said anvil 3. Said anvil is pivotally connected to 25 the frame 1 by means of an anvil rod 30.
As can be seen in this FIGURE 1 in a well known way springs are used to control the movements of such parts.
5
In order to break such eggs in mainly two substantially same halves, the knife unit 4 at the distal end of a knife rod 40 is moving from below in an upward direction during clamping of the egg. The upward movement is such that an impact on the egg is obtained by means of which 5 two egg halves result. After that movement the knife unit is retracted whereas the support clamps 2 are pivotally rotating from each other thereby take the egg shell halves and giving room for egg fluid from said broken egg to leak and flow and drip downwardly. As commonly known yolk and albumen (or white) are collected in respective yolk cups and white cups, and 10 after that yolk and white is gathered in receptacles for further egg liquid processing.
In FIGURE 2 in an isometrical view from below the anvil 3 is shown in much more detail. According to the invention the anvil 3 is 15 connected to the anvil rod 30 with a pivot 31. This means that eggs of every size will be clamped in a very suitable way thus resulting in a stable position giving reliable impacts. As can be seen such anvil 3 has a resting surface 32, called concha because of the form of a vault substantially adapted to the egg surface. About halfway said concha 32 a strip 33 is 20 arranged.
Especially the dimensions of said strip is selected such that breaking is guided optimally whereas telescoping of the egg shell halves is avoided. This means that such concha part or concha halve functions as a 25 seat for such according egg shell halve. Consequently retrieving egg liquid is highly improved whereas gathering all egg shell remnants is improved as well.
As regards these dimensions such strip 33 can have a flat resting 30 surface or a slightly convex resting surface. In order to have an optimal egg 6 shell halve guidance the width of such strip is advantageously selected in the range from 1 to 5 mm.
As well known in this field of technology well determined steel 5 material is selected for building such parts.
It might be clear to those skilled I the art that further embodiments are comprised by the present invention. Expressis verbis such embodiments can comprise slight modifications which are considered to be 10 covered by the claims as attached.
