Description
Shopping basket arranged for attachment to and detachment from a bicycle handlebar
The invention relates to a shopping basket arranged for attachment to and detachment from a bicycle handlebar.
Such a shopping basket is known from the prior art, and is normally placed on a frame which is mounted at the frontal 5 part of the bicycle, which frame connects inter alia to a substantially vertical bar that supports the bicycle handlebar. Placement of the shopping basket on the frame thus results in an indirect attachment of the basket to the bicycle handlebar.
It is an object of the invention to provide a shopping 10 basket with increased ease of use.
It is a further object of the invention to obviate the need to apply a separate frame at the frontal part of the bicycle for placement, of the basket.
It is still a further object of the invention to pro-15 vide such a shopping basket which has increased versatility in its use.
These and other objects of the invention which will become apparent from the following discussion and/or by comparing the invented shopping basket with the closest prior art as will 20 become known after issuance of the novelty search report, are attained with the shopping basket embodied with the features of anyone of the appended claims.
In a first aspect of the invention the basket is provided with hooks for hanging the basket to the handlebar. It is 25 this, due to its simplicity, remarkably ingenious measure that opens the way of a very versatile and easy use of the shopping basket of the invention.
Preferably the hooks are suitably provided adjacent, to and extending immediately above an upper circumferential edge of 30 a wall of the basket, which wall -with the basket hanging on the handlebar- is positioned adjacent to a substantially vertical bar that supports the handlebar.
One of the preferred aspects of the invention is that the hooks are swivably mounted to the wall of the basket, that in 35 use is positioned adjacent to a substantially vertical bar that supports the handlebar. The hooks can then accommodate for very different designs of the handlebar or handlebars of the bicycles 2 with which the basket of the invention may be employed.
A further preferred feature of the basket of the invention is that the hooks are curved such as to provide an open end for receiving the handlebar, which open end is aimed to the bas-5 ket's receptacle for goods. This feature provides a very secure hanging of the shopping basket on the handlebar of the bicycle.
Still a further preferred feature and aspect of the invention is that the shopping basket has handles that are integrated with the hooks so as to cause that the swivable position 10 of the hooks may suitably correspond to the position provided to the handles. This feature thus effectively promotes the ease-of-use of the shopping basket of the invention when employing it with very different designs of bicycle handlebars.
Preferably the shopping basket of the invention has a 15 wall that is provided with a curvature that is arranged to follow at a predefined distance a substantially vertical bar supporting the handlebar, whereby the curvature of said wall is arranged to accommodate a headlight of a bicycle. It is thus not necessary to remove the headlight of the bicycle, or in any way 20 manipulate such bicycle when using it in conjunction with the shopping basket of the invention. This is therefore also very supportive for the ease-of-use of the shopping basket of the invention.
Still another feature of the shopping basket of the in-25 vention is that it has a brace that is provided to the wall of the basket which, with the basket hanging on the handlebar, is positioned adjacent, to a substantially vertical bar that supports the handlebar. In this way it can be prevented that in use the wall of the basket comes to lie against the headlight of the 30 bicycle. The brace further promotes the rigidity of the shopping basket, and promotes that the basket can be stably suspended from the handlebar.
It is preferable that the brace is repositionable such that it is mountable on a selected one of several preselected 35 positions on the wall of the basket. In this manner the brace can be placed on the wall of the basket at a position such that it does not come in the way of the bicycle's headlight.
For this purpose the wall of the basket that is provided with the brace suitably has preselected apertures for co-40 operating with projections extending from the brace so as to hold the brace in a position at said wall which is defined by 3 said apertures .
It can further be remarked that preferably the basket of the invention has two hooks that are provided on opposite sides of the brace.
5 The invention will hereinafter be further elucidated with reference to an exemplary embodiment of the shopping basket of the invention as shown in the drawing, and without limiting the appended claims .
In the drawing: 10 -figure 1 shows an isometric view of the shopping bas ket of the invention from a frontal side; and -figure 2 shows another isometric view of the shopping basket of the invention from a side opposite to the frontal side .
15 Wherever in the figures the same reference numerals are applied, these numerals refer to the same parts.
With reference to both figure 1 and figure 2 the shopping basket of the invention is denoted with reference 1. This shopping basket. 1 is arranged for attachment to and detachment 20 from a bicycle handlebar, which is realized by the feature that the basket 1 is provided with hooks 2, 3 for hanging the basket 1 to a (not shown) bicycle handlebar.
As the figures 1, 2 show, the hooks 2, 3 are provided adjacent to and extending immediately above an upper circumfer- 25 ential edge 4 of a wall 5 of the basket 1, which wall 5 will in use be positioned adjacent to a substantially vertical bar which usually although not necessarily forms part of and supports the essentially horizontal handlebar, when the basket 1 is suspended from said handlebar.
30 Preferably the hooks 2, 3 are swivably mounted to the wall 5 of the basket 1, that in use is positioned adjacent to the substantially vertical bar supporting the handlebar. The swivable mounting of the hooks 2, 3 can be clearly seen from a comparison of figure 1 with figure 2.
35 Particularly figure 1 further shows that the hooks 2, 3 are curved such as to provide an open end 6, 7 for receiving the handlebar. This open end 6, 7 is preferably aimed to the basket's receptacle 8 for goods.
In both figure 1 and figure 2 is shown that the shop- 40 ping basket 1 has handles 9, 10 that are integrated with the hooks 2, 3 so as to cause that the swivable position of the 4 hooks 2, 3 corresponds to the position provided to the handles 9, 10.
Also clear from figure 1 and figure 2 is the preferential feature that the basket 1 has its wall 5 provided with a 5 curvature 11 that is arranged to follow at a predefined distance the (not shown) substantially vertical bar supporting the handlebar. This curvature 11 of said wall 5 is preferably arranged to accommodate a headlight, of a bicycle.
Figure 2 further shows a brace 12 that is provided to 10 the wall 5 of the basket 1 which brace, with the basket 1 hanging on the handlebar, is positioned adjacent, to and abuts the substantially vertical bar that supports the horizontal handlebar .
Preferably the brace (12) is repositionable such that 15 it is mountable on a selected one of several preselected positions on the wall (5) of the basket (1), for which purpose the wall (5) of the basket (1) that is provided with the brace (12) has preselected apertures (13) for cooperating with projections extending from the brace (12) so as to hold the brace (12) in a 20 position at said wall (5) which is defined by said apertures (13) .
Finally it is remarked that he shopping basket 1 of the invention preferably has two hooks 2, 3 that are provided on opposite sides of the brace 12. This provides a natural balance to 25 the shopping basket 1 of the invention when it is hanging on a bicycle handlebar.
