Abstract
A light fixture which can be connected to a biospecimen collector, such as a polyp trap. 1043418
Description
TECHNICAL FIELD The invention relates to light fixture for illuminating a biospecimen, such as a polyp, in a biospecimen collecting device.
BACKGROUND Devices used to collect a biospecimen, such as a polyp, from the body of a patient via an endoscope are known. A pump provides the suction through the endoscope via an inlet tube to the device by and an outlet tube from the device to a pump.
One example of a patent application is NL2021759 by applicant, which is summarized as a device for collecting a specimen configured for inserting one biospecimen collection tray after another in a single holder in a sequence, whereby a new tray is inserted at one end of a tube-like holder and pushes a tray already inserted to a position in the direction of the other end of the holder. This way, trays may be entered in a continuous sequence and be also inspected at a position away from inlet and outlet tubes. A tray removed from one end of the holder may be re-entered at the other end of the holder after removing the biospecimen from a well in the tray.
In practice handling of such a device is rather difficult. On the one hand a user (often a specialist) needs to manipulate multiple instruments, and devices, and be alert for the arrival of a biospecimen in the device. On the other hand, the user needs to be able to inspect the biospecimen often immediately, in order to decide for further procedures.
An extra complication is caused by a lack of sufficient ambient light. The reason for this is that in the endoscopy room it is important that the overhead light is dimmed during the procedure to maximize viewing of images on the endoscopy screen.
DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide a solution for inspecting a biospecimen in low light conditions.
The object is realized by the following clauses.
1. A light fixture for use in a device for collecting a biospecimen, characterized in that the light fixture comprises a connection means for connecting the light fixture to and removable from said device.
2. Alight fixture according to clause 1, characterized in that, when the light fixture is connected to the device by the connection means, the light fixture is configured for directing the light of the one or more light sources though the one or more transparent parts of the holder on to the one or more wells.
3. The light fixture according to clause 1 or 2, characterized in that the light fixture comprises a switch for controlling the light source, said switch arranged for being operated automatically when the light fixture is connected to the socket.
4. The light fixture according to any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that the light fixture comprises a control unit, arranged for controlling the light source.
5. The light fixture according to clause 4, characterized in that the control unit comprises a light sensitive sensor, whereby the control unit is arranged for adjusting the brightness level automatically for low and high ambient light conditions as detected by the sensor.
6. The light fixture according to any one of the any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that the holder is arranged for holding one or more trays, and the light fixture is arranged for illuminating the one or more trays.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The figure shows a view of embodiments in accordance with the present invention.
FIGURE 1 shows a connectable light fixture FIGURE 2 shows a device with a holder, multiple trays and a connected light fixture.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION The invention is now described by the following aspects and embodiments, with reference to the figures
Considering that a user of a biospecimen collection device such as a polyp trap, operates under low light conditions, a light fixture is proposed. In FIGURE 2 an example device is shown. Device 100 comprises a tube-like holder 101 with one or more trays 300a,b which may be inserted in holder 101. An endoscope may be used to remove a biospecimen such as a polyp. By using a pump (not shown) and applying a suction force though tubes, a freshly cut biospecimen is sucked towards a well in tray 300b as in the example of figure 2.
FIGURE 1 shows a shows a light fixture 200 arranged for connecting to a device such as device 100 as shown in figure 2.
Holder 101 is at least partly made of transparent material, which allows a user to inspect the biospecimen when caught in a well 301a,b.
Light fixture 200 has one or more light sources 201a,b, such as LEDs which illuminate preferably all trays 300a,b in multiple positions. The lights sources 201a,b may be switched on/off manually by a switch 202, or may be switched on automatically when connected to holder 101, and switched off when removed from holder 101. This may be done by a button 202, which is pressed when light fixture 200 is connected and depressed when removed.
A control unit (not shown) may be incorporated in housing 210 of light fixture 200, which switches light sources on/or off automatically. For this purpose, a light sensitive sensor (not shown) may be added to light fixture 200.The control unit may also adjust brightness of light sources 201a,b in dependence of the ambient light brightness. The control unit may also switch off the light sources after a certain time after no movement has been detected.
For connecting light fixture 200 to a holder 101a bracket 204 may be provided.
The bracket may be pivotable via hinges 203a,b, for directing the light sources 201a,b towards the biospecimen.
It should be noted that the above-mentioned embodiments illustrate rather than limit the invention, and that a person skilled in the art will be able to design many alternative embodiments without departing from the scope of the appended claims. In the claims, any reference signs placed between parentheses shall not be construed as limiting the claim. Use of the verb "to comprise" and its conjugations does not exclude the presence of elements or steps other than those stated in a claim. The term "and/or" includes any and all combinations of one or more of the associated listed items. The article "a" or "an" preceding an element does not exclude the presence of a plurality of such elements.
The article "the" preceding an element does not exclude the presence of a plurality of such elements.
In the device claim enumerating several means, several of these means may be embodied by one and the same item of hardware.
The mere fact that certain measures are recited in mutually different dependent claims does not indicate that a combination of these measures cannot be used to advantage.
