Description
Title: Bed linen fabric
The invention relates to a bed linen fabric with a first and second yarn, which are connected to one another by means of a textile production process. The invention particularly relates to a bed linen fabric that has been developed for use in the healthcare system.
5 Fabrics which are used as bed linen must exhibit a number of properties, in order to satisfy current requirements with regard to convenience of handling and use, durability and ease of care. Thus, on the one hand, it is desirable that such fabrics are soft to the touch, do not irritate the skin, retain heat well and do not absorb a lot of moisture.
10 Fabrics to be used for this purpose should have a defined extensibility and elastic recovery behaviour. At the same time, however, it is desirable to make the fabrics resistant to breaking loads and wear and tear, in order to achieve a long useful life.
In DE 601 07 671 a process for the predyeing treatment of fabrics 15 is described, which can, for example, be applied to bed linen made from acrylic fibre used as a warp-knitted fabric for manufacturing duvet covers. In the case of this bed linen fabric, acrylic fibre and polyester fibre are processed with one another to produce a knitted fabric with a weight of approximately 220 g per square metre.
20 From DE 100 42 198 Cl a surgical cover is known that comprises a layer of fabric made from polyester fibre material in a warp-knitted embodiment.
From DE 31 266 60 C2 an elastic bandage is known that is made from polyester and is processed as a weft-knitted fabric. In this embodiment 25 the specific configuration of elastic bandages comes into effect, which enables linear expansion within certain limits, but displays minimal lateral expansion.

Another important property of such fabrics is the crease resistance, i.e. the ability of the fabrics to reverse any creases resulting from storage or other influences within a short space of time.
The invention is based on the object of providing an improved bed 5 linen fabric that satisfies the aforementioned requirements in a better manner than prior art bed linen fabrics. This is achieved, according to the invention, in that the first and second yarn are connected with one another as a warp knitted fabric and the first yarn is different from the second yarn.
By using two different yarns in the bed linen fabric according to 10 the invention, two different requirements for the fabric can be met in principle, in particular requirements which appear to be contradictory in terms of their application in one fabric. In this way, on the one hand, the elastic recovery behaviour, which is important for the crease recovery, can be increased, but, at the same time, the tactile properties of the bed linen 15 fabric can be optimised for pleasant comfort.
The two yarns are connected with one another using a warpknitting technique, whereby a knitted fabric is created that has basic elasticity due to the pattern of the individual stitches and is in this instant, for example, superior to a state-of-the-art woven fabric. Owing to the basic 20 elasticity of the knitted fabric supplied, a considerably faster crease recovery of the material is achieved as compared with prior art.
Pursuant to a first form of preferential embodiment, it is intended that both yarns consist of the same material. Firstly, by using an identical material for both yarns it is prevented that one of the two yarns is more 25 subject to wear and that this is especially accelerated through friction and wear and tear on the other yarn and would lead to a premature failure of the fabric. Secondly, by using an identical material for both yarns the reaction of the fabrics to temperatures, e.g. when washing, will be more uniform, and so relative movements of the two yarns in relation to each 3 other and deformations which can adversely affect the fabrics during the cleaning process will largely be prevented.
It is also preferable that the first yarn is texturised and the other yarn is not texturised but especially smooth. According to the invention, it 5 has been recognised that yarns made from polyester filaments can develop a soft feel similar to cotton through the selective texturing of one yarn and the smooth design of the other yarn, whilst simultaneously retaining the positive qualities of polyester, such as fight weight, fast drying capability, low moisture absorption and high mechanical strength. When combined 10 with the non-texturised design of the second yarn key textile properties such as bulking power, elasticity and body are improved by texturing the first yarn, thereby enhancing the fabrics in terms of their feeling of comfort. The heat retention of the fabrics can also be increased as a result and the moisture absorption reduced compared to fabrics with comparable qualities 15 in terms of their comfort characteristics. Finally, both the extensibility and elastic recovery is enhanced through this selective texturing of one yarn, thereby achieving improved crease recovery of the fabric featured in the invention.
It is also preferable that the first and/or second yarn consist of 20 polyester filaments, especially fibres with a thickness of 40-60 den, preferably below 50 den, especially 50 den. Owing to the fast drying nature of this material, polyester is preferable for the specific application as bed linen, especially bed linen in the healthcare system. The use of fibres with a comparably low thickness as compared with prior art, especially a thickness 25 of 50 den or less, leads to the possibility of producing a fabric with an improved opaqueness compared with the prior art using warp-knitting technology, whilst at the same time maintaining low fabric weights.
It is also preferable to supply the bed linen fabric with flameproof or flame-retardant properties, especially with a flameproof finish.
30 Technologies such as coatings or impregnations can be used as flameproof 4 finishes. Fabrics provided as such are then flame resistant and, in particular, self-extinguishing.
It is also preferable to supply the bed linen with an antistatic finish. Coatings or impregnations may again be used as an antistatic finish.
5 On the one hand, the antistatic finish prevents the charging behaviour of the bed linen which is unpleasant for the user, and the resultant discharge. On the other hand, the unwanted electrostatic sticking of bed linen to other electrostatically loaded objects is prevented through this.
It is also preferable that the fabric weight is fighter than 190 g 10 per square metre, in particular between 130 and 155 g per square metre and preferably between 140 and 145 g per square metre. Fabric which is supplied in this way makes the bed linen particularly fight, which is advantageous for user comfort and for efficiency during processing.
A further aspect of the invention is a duvet cover made from a bed 15 linen fabric of the type described above. The bed linen fabric according to the invention is especially suitable as a duvet cover and is especially favourable for use as a reversible duvet cover due to its specific design. Through the provision of a reversible duvet cover with the fabric technology according to the invention a pleasant tactile feel is achieved for the user on 20 both sides, and, at the same time, the handling of the bed linen fabric in the course of changing and making the bed is made considerably easier, as it is no longer necessary to first turn duvet covers which are the correct side up inside out in order to be able to then pull them up over the duvet.
Another aspect of the invention is the use of a bed linen fabric of 25 the type described above as a fabric for duvet covers in the healthcare system. Bed covers in the healthcare system may in particular be duvet covers, pillowcases and bottom sheets. An execution example of a bed linen fabric with properties according to the invention has the following specifications: 30 a) it is a warp-knitted fabric, 5 b) the weight is between 140-145 g per square metre, c) the yarns from which the bed linen fabric is produced are 100% polyester, d) the yarns or the bed linen fabric has a flame retardant, antistatic and self-extinguishing property, preferably as a result of appropriate treatment.
5 The first yarn from which the bed linen fabric is produced pursuant to the preferred embodiment has a smooth 100% polyester type of fibre with a filament yarn construction.
The second yarn of the bed linen fabric according to the invention has a texturised 100% polyester type of fibre, which is designed as a 10 filament yarn construction.
In one version the bed linen is finished as a reversible duvet cover, and in a second version the bed linen is finished as a continuous fabric with integrated heat-insulating filling and has the function of a blanket.
