SCHIP VOORZIEN VAN EEN HOL RONDHOUTSHIP FITTED WITH A CAVE ROUNDWOOD
The invention relates to a ship provided with a hollow round timber, in particular a hollow ship's mast, wherein the mast is at least substantially formed by wooden strips extending in the longitudinal direction of the mast and wherein adjacent strips are adhered to each other, particularly glued. In this context, the term "round timber" is understood to mean all round timber that belongs to the ship's gear, in particular booms, yokes, but also waterways.
Such a ship in the form of a sailboat is generally known. Today, old sailing boats are particularly popular, not only as pleasure craft but also as competition boats. Sailing ships, such as cutters and barges, are nowadays regarded as belonging to the cultural heritage of the Netherlands, whereby from the point of view of authenticity often original materials have to be used when repairing such ships. For example, it is not attractive to replace an original wooden mast of a tjalk with a mast of plastic, metal or other material. It is therefore customary to construct a replacement mast made of solid or a replacement mast from wooden strips extending in the longitudinal direction of the mast, wherein adjacent strips are glued together along their mutually facing straight abutment surfaces.
A drawback of known sailing ships with masts thus constructed is the following. In practice, in particular at high wind loads, it appears that the forces exerted on a glue connection between adjacent strips can become so great that the glue connection collapses, with all the disastrous consequences for the ship and its crew.
I 1 2I 1 2
The object of the invention is to provide a ship with a hollow, wooden ship's mast, wherein the drawbacks of the prior art are obviated, in particular wherein a more powerful glue connection is realized between wooden strips from which the mast is assembled.
To this end, a ship of the type mentioned in the preamble according to the invention has the special feature that adhered, in particular glued, surfaces of adjacent strips are provided with cooperating profiles. These cooperating profiles not only cause a larger glue surface to be formed, so that adjacent strips are more firmly adhered to each other, but also that adjacent strips are secured relative to each other in radial and tangential directions, and in particular at high wind loads not in those directions relative to each other. can shift from each other. This securing of neighboring strips makes it possible to make the strips less thick, which not only results in a saving of (sparse) wood, but also implies that due to these smaller dimensions, "error-free" wood can be used, that is to say say selected wood. Finally, this securing of adjacent strips has the consequence that the glue used can have a "longer open time", that is to say less critical in the sense of a longer drying time, which also has the advantage that with fewer people in a longer period of manufacture 30 of the ship's mast.
In a preferred embodiment of a ship according to the invention, the cooperating profiles are at least substantially formed by at least one protrusion of a strip and at least a groove corresponding thereto of a strip adjacent thereto. In this connection, a so-called "lamello" connection between adjacent strips can in particular be envisaged, wherein a protruding insert, commercially called "lamello", fits from one strip into a corresponding groove of the neighboring strip. In another preferred variant, the cooperating profiles are zigzag, trapezoidal or wave-shaped in cross-section.
In a further preferred embodiment of a ship 10 according to the invention, the strips, viewed in cross-section of the mast, lie on the circumference of a wing, circle or ellipse. Viewed in that cross-section, the strips are in particular at least substantially uniform, so that the strips form identical mast segments, as it were, which is preferable for production reasons.
In a further preferred embodiment of a ship according to the invention, the strips comprise at least two sub-strips extending in the longitudinal direction of the strips, wherein the sub-strips of a strip each have a beveled end and are glued together at the location of their beveled ends. . This results in an enlargement of the glue surface and therefore a stronger glue connection between the sub-strips of a strip.
In a further preferred embodiment of a ship according to the invention, the sub-strips of a strip comprise connecting members cooperating at the location of their beveled ends. This makes it possible to secure the sub-strips of a strip both in the longitudinal and transverse direction of the strip. In a preferred variant, the cooperating connecting members are at least substantially formed by at least one protruding insert or "lamello" of the one sub-strip and at least one groove of the other sub-strip corresponding thereto (4).
The invention also relates to a round timber, in particular a ship's mast, apparently suitable for use in a ship according to the invention.
The invention further refers to a method for manufacturing a ship, in particular a hollow round timber, more in particular a hollow, wooden ship's mast according to the invention, comprising the following steps: chamfering an end of at least two sub-strips and arranging cooperating connecting members at the location of the beveled ends; attaching the sub-strips to each other at the location of the beveled ends while applying glue to form a strip; cutting the strip to size using a mold; - arranging a profile at the location of the longitudinal surfaces of the strip; and securing strips thus produced to each other at the location of the longitudinal surfaces while applying glue to form the mast.
The invention will be further elucidated with reference to figures shown in a drawing, in which - figure 1 schematically and in perspective shows a part of a ship's mast according to the invention; and figures 2 to 4 indicate different steps for manufacturing the ship's mast of figure 1.
Figure 1 distinguishes a part of a wooden ship's mast (1) from a sailing ship, composed of wooden strips (2, 2 ', 2 "...) forming uniform segments, which extend in the longitudinal direction of the mast (1 As shown in Figure 1, the strips 10 (2, 2 ', 2 "...), viewed in cross-section of the mast (1), lie on the circumference of a circle and are surfaces glued to each other of adjacent strips (2,2 '), (2', 2 ") ... provided with cooperating profiles (3) with a wavy cross-section. Thus a larger glue surface is created, while the profiles (3) the strips (2, 2 ", 2" ...) also fixation in radial and tangential direction.
Een en ander zorgt voor een onderlinge fixatieTo produce a mast (1.) of, for example, 18 20 meters in length, each strip (2, 2 ', 2 "...) is made up of, for example, three in the longitudinal direction of the strip (2,2', 2" ... ) extending sub-strips (4, 5, 6, 6) of each, for example, 6 meters in length. Figure 2 shows how the sub-strips (4,5) of the strip (2) are attached to each other. For the sake of simplicity and in order not to unnecessarily complicate the drawing, Figure 2 only shows the mutual attachment of the sub-strips (4,5), but it should be noted that the sub-strip (6) is glued to the sub-strip (5) in the same way (Figure 3). The sub-strips (4, 5) in Figure 2 each have a shielded end for increasing the adhesive surface, wherein three protruding inserts or "lamellos" (7) are provided at the beveled end of the sub-strip (5) and wherein three corresponding grooves (8) are provided at the beveled end of the sub-strip (4). All this ensures a mutual fixation

6 van de deelstroken (4,5) in willekeurige richtingen, dat wil zeggen zowel in longitudinale als transversale richting.6 of the sub-strips (4,5) in arbitrary directions, i.e. in both the longitudinal and transverse directions.
Figure 3 shows the strip (2), the sub-strips (4,5,6) being glued together, while a mold (9) in the form of a thin material is laid on a strip (2). The mold (9) serves to saw the strip (2) (along that mold (9)) tapering in the longitudinal direction, and at the same time the strip (2) (along the mold (9)) in its width direction below to cut an angle of approximately 11 °. Figure 4 shows the strip (2) thus sawn.
15 Aldus gezaagde stroken (2,2',2"...) worden vervolgens van in dwarsdoorsnede golfvormige, samenwerkende (klem)profielen (3) voorzien en tenslotte aan elkaar gelijmd ter vorming van de uiteindelijke mast (1) van f iguur 1.Strips (2,2 ', 2 "...) sawn in this way are then provided with cross-section wave-shaped, cooperating (clamping) profiles (3) and finally glued together to form the final mast (1) of figure 1 .
