Abstract
Description
Build up two-dimensional digital representations or decorations from uniform pixels that are obtained by selectively filling openings in mesh material, using capillary action if necessary.

This invention relates to the selective filling of openings or positions in mesh or grating with the aid of filler, in order to generate representations. The performance can be both abstract and figurative. In the latter case, it looks like embroidery. The result, a 'cloth' decorated hereinafter, can be applied in many ways in user or artwork.
In order to realize the representations, it is preferable to start from a bendable woven metal mesh material with square apertures about 2 x 2 mm, which is worked with solder (tin / silver alloy), whereby uniform square hereafter called so-called pixels are formed. See Figure I for an impression, front and side view. But almost any type of existing mesh material can be used, as long as the openings resp. meshes but not too large to be filled, and as long as the 'filling material' adheres to it, using capillary action if necessary. In addition to mesh with square openings, it is also possible to opt for other types of mesh material such as with hexagonal openings and hexagonal braiding or perforated sheet metal, possibly with round openings, whereby hexagonal and possibly round pixels are formed.
Possible material choices: galvanized woven metal mesh (mosquito net) and soldering into the openings with a tin or silver alloy. Tinned mesh and fill the openings with tin. For outdoor applications it may be good to use stainless steel mesh, or aluminum mesh where Argon gas is used for welding. Copper and brass can be used for color variations. (For the same reason one can think of the use of varnish / paint thick enough to fill the mesh material. The use of plastic mesh can also be considered). Instead of flexible mesh material, sheets of rigid expanded metal, normal and flat-rolled, can be used. The result is firmer and less transparent.

The entire process can be automated by using Scan or Cad drawing techniques in the development of the image. The pixel information can then be stored electronically and used for a CAM (Computer Automatic Manufacturing) 5 system. Another production possibility for selectively filling the meshes can be achieved by placing small balls of suitable meltable material on the meshes where the pixels are to be formed. When 'positioned' in the openings, the whole can be heated. The balls must be sized so that the openings are filled precisely when heated.
The method of manufacturing and the composition of the material will in principle always depend on the application.
It will be clear that as more openings are filled, the end product becomes stiffer, as well as heavier, more massive and less transparent. This can be done purposefully to promote these properties but can also be a consequence of the design. One can also 'tie off' by filling in at least one row of the mesh material. See example Figure II, fencing around an opening.
In addition to simply hanging as a kind of curtain, a 'cloth' can be reinforced by being fixed on or in a frame, or tensioned between rings such as sieves and embroidery rings, tensioning with folded edges to which tensioning bolts are attached etc.
In general, mesh or mesh material can be used for various purposes such as ventilation, shading applications, insect protection, burglary. The partly transparent property can be useful if one does not want what is on the other side of the mesh to be so clearly visible. The decorated 'canvas' can be placed in and in front of a door or window 30, but can also serve as a semi-transparent partition wall in a room. A small sized frame is reminiscent of the traditional old-Dutch wooden frames, placed in front of the window, with net curtain-like textile.
Metal mesh treated with a metal in an upright metal frame 35 can also be used as a fireplace screen due to its heat resistance.
Verder, kan het bewerkte metaalgaas tussen twee lagen glas 1016400 * 3 (isolatie) worden geplaatst of door 'smelten' van glas één geheel met het bewerkte gaas worden; 'gewapend glas' (of kunststof).Further, the processed metal mesh can be placed between two layers of glass 1016400 * 3 (insulation) or by 'melting' glass into one with the processed mesh; 'reinforced glass' (or plastic).
Because the woven mesh material is flexible, different shapes are possible, also 3-dimensional. One can think of: part of a awning / roller blind for inside or outside, around columns of a building as a kind of protective layer etc. But also objects such as lampshades. In addition to so-called architectural applications, the decorated material can also be processed, for example, in jewelry worn by people. Figure III shows a 3-dimensional example of processed / decorated mesh material.
Onder andere: 'Gaasweefsel' NL A 9500121 - aanvrager: Bruynzeel 15 Plastics en 'Metallic decorative material used for furniture, fixture and the like' 04115091A- Nakayama Hidehiro. Het Bureau voor de Industriële Eigendom in Rijswijk noemde als enig resultaat, na indicatief onderzoek in B44C en B23K, dat dichtbij huidige vinding komt: 'Lightweight, rigid metal product and process for producing 20 the same, US-A 4.543.803 - Mark Keyasko. For comparison, patents were examined, mainly in the (IPC) search groups B44C, B23K, E06B (9/52) and their subdivisions.
