Abstract

Title: Assembly of a container and a lid

The invention relates to an assembly of a container and a lid, wherein the container is provided with a bottom and a jacket wall, wherein a container flange extending substantially perpendicular to the jacket wall is formed, formed on the jacket wall, near an upper edge thereof. with which holder flange a wall part is connected to an edge of the holder flange remote from the jacket wall, which wall part extends substantially parallel to the jacket wall, wherein the lid 10 is provided with a lid wall, the lid being provided with a peripheral closing wall, which extends in a downward direction and engages with a side facing the lid wall on the top edge of the casing wall, the closing wall being provided with a downward edge which, when the lid is placed on the holder, is so close against the holder flange extending perpendicular to the jacket wall, or in such a way is shielded by the or wall part extending parallel to the jacket wall, that engagement of this downward edge is not possible.

Such an assembly is described, for example, in applicant's European patent application EP-A-0 855 347. For the purpose of opening the lid of this known assembly, the holder of the assembly is provided with a sealing lip which can be broken away, so that the user the downward edge of the closing wall of the lid can engage to open the lid. Although the breaking of the seal in the known bucket hardly causes any weakening of the container 30, this danger is still present. The object of the invention is to provide an assembly of a container and a lid of the type described in the preamble, which is provided with a security and wherein the breaking of the seal does not cause any weakening of the container.

According to the invention, the assembly of the type described in the preamble is characterized for this purpose in that at the location of an engaging position the gripping lip is connected to the downward edge of the closing wall and extends from the downward edge in such a manner that it can be gripped.

For the purpose of opening the lid, the user will have to pull the engagement lip, so that the closing wall at the location of the engagement lip is released from the jacket wall of the container, after which the lid can be pulled away from the container. The holder flange and the wall part connected to the holder flange can extend over the entire circumference of the holder without the need for an interruption or a profile change to be formed therein in order to form a sealing lip. The container will therefore have substantially the same stiffness over its entire circumference.

In order to also provide the assembly with a seal, it is, according to a further elaboration of the invention, particularly advantageous if the closing wall is provided at least on either side of the engaging lip with a weakening, which is arranged such that during engagement, and for opening pulling the engaging lip from the cover sideways or upwards, at least a closing wall part delimited by the weakening is pulled away from the remaining closing wall, and remains connected to the cover only with a side remote from the downward edge, such that the pulled-out closing wall part is engageable for the further open the lid. In these operations the aforementioned weakenings will have to be broken, which breakage becomes visible, so that it is clear that the lid has already been removed from the holder 35 earlier. The holder E is provided with a bottom 1 and a jacket wall 2. Near the top edge 3 of the jacket wall 2, a holder flange 4 extending substantially perpendicular to the jacket wall 2 is arranged. Connected to an edge 4a of the holder flange 4 remote from the shell wall 2 is a wall part 5 which extends substantially parallel to the shell wall 2. In the present exemplary embodiment, ribs 6 extend between said wall part 5 and the jacket wall 2 in order to increase the strength of the container E. However, such ribs are not necessary. The lid D is provided with a lid wall 7. On the periphery of the lid D, the lid is provided with a closing wall 8, which extends in a downward direction and which engages with a side facing the lid wall 7 on the top edge 3 of the lid. casing wall 2. Preferably, this engagement takes place with the fingers, however, grippable should also be understood to mean grippable with a tool such as pliers or screwdriver. Figure 3 shows the gripping lip 9 in the original position and in an engaged position indicated by 9a. Figures 10-13 show in the same position and view as shown in figure 8 a number of alternative embodiments of the engaging lip 9.

Figure 14 shows the cross-section along line XIV-XIV from figure 13. It is clearly visible therein that in that exemplary embodiment the gripping lip 9 is held in the gripping position via a breakable connecting bar 19.

The closing wall 8 is provided with a weakening 10-12 at least on either side of the engaging lip 9. This weakening 10-12 is clearly visible in the various exemplary embodiments of figures 15-18 and is indicated therein by the reference numbers 10, 25 and 11, 12 respectively. The weakening 10-12 are arranged such that upon engagement, and for opening pulling the engaging lip 9 sideways or upwards from the lid D, at least one closing wall part 8b delimited by the weakenings 10-12 from the remaining closing wall 8, and is only connected to the lid D with a side remote from the downward edge 8a such that the peeled-off closing wall part 8b is engageable for further opening of the lid D. In this state the aforementioned opening 18 has been created, which is indicated in figures 4 and 9 and under which the user are 10 1 2 9 0 9 7 fingers for further opening the lid D.

In all exemplary embodiments shown in Figs. 15-18, a flange 14 extending substantially parallel to the lid wall 7 is connected to the downward edge 8a of the closing wall 58. The said weakenings 10-13 also extend in this flange 14 on either side of the engagement lip 9. In the exemplary embodiment of figure 15, the weakenings in the flange 10 14 are designed as recesses, while the weakenings in the closing wall 8 designed as a thin-walled fleece. The thin-walled fleece is shown in perspective and partly in section in Figure 16. When the engaging lip 9 is pulled sideways and upwards, this fleece is broken, so that it becomes apparent that at least an attempt has been made to remove the lid D from the holder E. It is also clearly visible in figure 17 that the flange 14 is interrupted at the location of the weakening 11 and that the closing wall 8 is made thin-walled at the location of the weakening 11.

In the exemplary embodiment shown in Figure 18, the weakenings 12 in the closing wall 8 are designed as recesses and in the flange 14 connecting to the closing wall 8 as webs 12a. It will be clear that other types of weakening are also possible, such as perforations, breakable connecting elements and the like.

In order to effect an easier folding up of the closing wall part 8b, a weakening line 15 can also be arranged in the closing wall 8, which is shown in cross section in figure 5, which weakening line 15 extends between the weakenings 10-12 substantially parallel to the downward edge. 8a of the closing wall 8. In the present exemplary embodiments, this weakening line 15 is also designed as a thin-walled fleece in the closing wall 8. Other embodiments are also possible for this film weakening line 15, such as, for example, perforations or the like. The recess 18 in the closing wall 8 has a shape such that engagement of the edge delimiting this recess 18 is possible for opening the lid D. As discussed above, however, it is also possible that the closing wall part 8b remains connected to the rest of the closing wall 8 via the weakening line 15 and is therefore only partly pulled away from the closing wall 8.

Although not necessary, in all the exemplary embodiments shown, the lid D is further provided with a connecting wall 17 which extends between a peripheral edge 16 of the lid wall 7 and the closing wall 8 in an upward direction relative to the lid wall 7, wherein the top edge 17a of the connecting wall 17 is connected to a top edge 8c of the closing wall 8, such that the top edge 3 of the jacket wall 2 is enclosed between the connecting wall 17 and the closing wall 8 in a position of the lid D placed on the holder E 25. in this way an airtight seal between the lid D and the container E can be achieved.

Figures 19 and 20 show two embodiments of a cover edge at the position of the engagement with an alternative solution for a sealing. With this alternative solution, a seal bridge 20 is provided at the location of the engagement position. The sealing bridge 20 is connected to the closing wall 8 and optionally 35 to the engaging lip 9, such that when engaging the engaging lip 9 at least one of the connections of the Λ 4 · ** '7' ί it '; *: -' ' 9 the seal bridge 20 with the closing wall 8 or with the engagement lip 9 is broken. In the exemplary embodiment shown in Figure 19, the seal bridge 20 extends on the side of the engagement lip 95 facing away from the closing wall 8. In the exemplary embodiment of Figure 20, the seal bridge 20 extends between the closing wall 8 and the engagement lip 9. In the present exemplary embodiments, the seal bridge itself is provided with weakenings 23 which will be broken when the engaging lip 9 is pulled up, so that the seal bridge 20 is pulled away from the closing wall 8 of the cover. In the exemplary embodiment of Fig. 19, the sealing bridge 20 is connected via connections 22 to the engaging lip 9. When these connections 22 are rigid, the sealing bridge 20 will be pulled up together with the engaging lip 9 and the breakable connections 23 will be broken. However, it is also possible that the breakable connections 23 are not present and that the connections 22 are designed as breakable connections 22. The seal bridge 20 then remains connected to the closing wall 8 of the cover, however, when the engagement lip 9 is pulled up the breakable connections 22 are pulled loose, so that a user can see from this that attempts have already been made to open the lid once.

Incidentally, both figures clearly show that the closing wall 8 on both sides of the engaging lip 9 is provided with interruptions 21 which delimit a closing wall part 8b, so that when the engaging lip 9 engages this closing wall part 8b is pulled upwards with the gripping lip 9.

Figure 21 clearly shows that the seal bridge 20 can optionally be connected via breakable connections 24, 25 to the closing wall part 8b or to the flange 14 connected to that closing wall part 8b. Incidentally, these connections 24, 25 can also be designed as non-breakable connections, so that when the f [i · * <"> 0 - · - f. v · o 10 engagement lip 9 is pulled up, the seal bridge 20 is pulled away from the closing wall 8 by breaking the weakenings 23 in the seal bridge 20.

It will be clear that the holder E can be provided with a handle, whether or not made of plastic, for forming a bucket. When the holder E is not provided with a handle, in practice it is usually indicated by the term pot.

It will be clear that the invention is not limited to the described exemplary embodiment, but that various modifications are possible within the scope of the invention. For example, holder and lid can consist of one part because they are connected to each other with a hinge or a connecting part.
