Description
Method for fumigating turf, especially on sports fields.
The present invention relates to a method for fumigating turf grasses, in particular on sports fields, in an enclosed or closed space.
It is well known that an oxygen deficiency hinders the growth of the roots of grass, which problem has a detrimental effect in particular on the application of turf on sports fields, both in an open field and in a hall or completely enclosed space. Due to insufficient growth of the roots of the grass plants in turf, it appears that these do not or insufficiently grow to the underlayer on which they are applied, with the result that the grass plants, or turf, become detached from the sports fields during intensive use.
However, it has been found that such an approach on sports fields in general, in particular in half or 20 completely enclosed spaces such as football stadiums, causes other problems.
Such a problem has arisen since the opening of the Amsterdam ArenA. The poor quality of the turf leads to a lot of irritation for players. Due to the insufficient growth of the roots of the grass plants, the grass plants, or turf, loosen from the ground, causing smoothness and unevenness, resulting in injuries for the players, in particular groin injuries, which are of course particularly undesirable.
It goes without saying that such a situation has an unfavorable influence on the playing quality of the players.
In order to somewhat solve the problem of the bad turf, it is necessary to replace the turf with a new turf at least twice a year. This 1010626 '* 2 is a very time-consuming and expensive operation and moreover seems to be only a sham solution, because in fact, after a few weeks, the new turf again appears to exhibit the problems outlined above. Therefore, diligent efforts are being made to find solutions to this problem.
The invention now aims to provide a method for solving the above-mentioned problems.
To this end, the invention comprises a method for gassing turf, in particular on sports fields, in an enclosed or closed space, characterized in that a mixture with an increased oxygen content is used as the gas.
Surprisingly, it has been found that by using a mixture with an increased oxygen content, the problems outlined above can be solved effectively.
After all, it has been found that by using the present method the oxygen uptake by the roots of the grass plants is promoted, with the result that relatively rapid root growth takes place, resulting in a well-developed, branched root system with a good anchoring of the grass plants, or the sod, in the underlying layer. After some time, the roots penetrate into the underlying layer at a depth of about 10 to 20 cm, which 25 roots are also strongly branched. The result is good anchoring in the ground. It will be understood that loosening of the grass is minimized during intensive use, such as during a competition. The sods also remain intact and will not show any irregularities, so that injuries for the players are kept to a minimum.
Time-consuming and costly replacement of the turf can be postponed for a long time, resulting in large savings.
Particularly good results are obtained according to the invention, with which a mixture with an increased oxygen content is injected into the soil. This injection takes place with the aid of specially manufactured hoses or tubes, which are provided with holes arranged at a certain distance of 1010626 3 for the passage of a mixture with an increased oxygen content.
De diameter van deze slangen bedraagt ca. 18 mm.An example of a hose, which is particularly suitable for injecting a mixture with an increased oxygen content, is one polyester yarn reinforced plastic hose (EPDM), which is manufactured to specification by Linde in Germany. This oxygen gassing hose is provided with holes, which are spaced about 6 mm apart and staggered relative to each other. The diameter of these hoses is approximately 18 mm.
Usually such hoses are placed in the soil layer under the turf as a separate system next to the drainage system. However, they can also be included in the drainage system itself.
Tenslotte wordt de werkwijze volgens de uitvinding uitgevoerd met behulp van speciaal geprefabriceerde slang c.q. buis, die in de grond beneden de graszoden is aangebracht .Finally, the method according to the invention is carried out with the aid of specially prefabricated hose or tube, which is arranged in the ground below the turf.
The turf has a thickness of approximately 5 cm and the underlying ground layer a thickness of approximately 70 cm. The oxygen injection hose is usually at a depth of about 30 to 60 cm.
Such hoses are connected to an oxygen source, which is either an oxygen cylinder or an oxygen storage tank, by the usual means, such as pressure reducing valves, etc.
Usually the gassing with a mixture with an increased oxygen content takes place at a pressure of 0.1-3 30 bar and preferably at a slight overpressure of about 0.5 bar. The oxygen content of the mixture is more than 35% oxygen by volume.
The present invention provides a particularly simple and elegant method of maintaining the condition and quality of the turf in football stadiums in general, and especially indoor football stadiums, in top condition for a long time.
It is noted that the invention further has the advantage and object of improving the eco-environment in favor of the growing conditions of aerobic processes in the soil as well as the oxygen / carbon dioxide ratio above the soil or turf.
In addition, a carbon dioxide blanket, which is located just above the grass, is also undone or diluted.
It should be remembered, however, that with the aid of the present invention, the turf can also be kept in top condition if the turf is covered with a floor, for instance during jazz concerts or other manifestations in a closed or closed stadium.
