Abstract

The tape (9) is pulled off a storage roll etc (12), parted off by a cutter (7), and pressed into place. A tool (11) folds the end of the parted-off strip over, so that two glued surfaces come to bear against each other. The tool can contain a gap extending at right angles to the tape travel direction, a portion of the tape clear of the end being inserted in the gap, typically by a vacuum generated inside the latter. One or more chamfers can be formed on the tool at right angles to the tape travel direction. The length of the gap can be slightly less than the tape width.
