Abstract

A substrate (I) provided with a super absorbent material (M) is obtainable by: (a) allowing suitable monomers to polymerise, or dissolving a polymer in water or aq. solvent, to obtain a polymer solution; (b) subsequently adding a crosslinking agent to obtain a pasty compsn. (C); and (c) applying (C) to a substrate (S) and allowing to dry and crosslink. Also claimed are: (i) a substrate (II) provided with discrete spherical islets of super-absorbent material, of dia. 100-200 ~mm; (ii) method for mfg. a substrate with a coating of super-absorbent material; and (iii) the mfr. of a paste of super absorbent material by steps (a) and (b) above; other agents may be added in step (b); (iv) cable with sheathing material formed form substrate: (v) hygiene prod., e.g. baby napkin or sanitary towel; (vi) hygiene prods. with absorber formed by the substrate; (vii) packaging material formed by substrate; and (viii) agricultural substrate formed by the substrate.
