Abstract
Disclosed are a method for preparing transparent wood using organic solvent, transparent wood prepared using the method, and applications of the transparent wood The method comprises steps of: drying a thin wood sample under a temperature of 105?5?; placing the dried thin wood sample in aqueous ethanol solution, extracting the dried thin wood sample under the temperature of 85~95? and then rinsing with the aqueous ethanol solution; subjecting the rinsed thin wood sample to lignin-retention bleaching in aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution; finally, filling up wood holes and pores using polymer matrix to thereby obtain a light-transmissive wood-base material. By dissolving lignin using ethanol at low temperature, the primitive structure of the wood is completely retained; the removed lignin is closer to the original lignin, and the prepared transparent wood has a higher optical transmittance. Additionally, the present disclosure adopts a chlorine-free delignification process, which is green and environment friendly; further, the ethanol may be fully recycled by distillation, further saving on costs. The transparent wood as prepared may be applied to light-transmissive buildings and transparent solar-cell windows.
