The present invention relates to a method of producing a carbon nanotube reinforced aluminium alloy matrix composite, said method comprising the steps of: mixing carbon nanotube with a metal powder to form a mixture; injecting said mixture into a molten alloy; stirring said mixture immediately to form a composite; casting said composite in a mold to form a billet; and subjecting said billet to thixoforming and heat treatment. Said metal powder is magnesium powder. Said mixture of carbon nanotube and metal powder is encapsulated in a capsule made of aluminium foil or sheet prior to injecting into said molten alloy and said molten alloy is remained at a temperature range of 645?C to 655?C during said step of injecting and stirring for a liquid state processing. The present invention solves the agglomeration issue and improves distribution of carbon nanotube in said aluminium alloy matrix without requiring grinding step that may destruct the carbon nanotube.
