Abstract
The present invention provides protein hydrolysates of Actinopyga lecanora comprising purified and multifunctional bioactive peptide fractions having an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO. 1 to SEQ ID. NO. 12, which are obtainable by enzymatic hydrolysis of desalinated Actinopyga lecanora by at least one enzyme, which includes papain, alcalase, pepsin, trypsin, flavourzyme, and bromelain, at appropriate conditions. Also provided in the present invention is the use of the protein hydrolysate as a bioactive ingredient in food preparation systems, as well as in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical preparations.
